Thinking Out Loud: Perspective

I had my follow-up doctor’s appointment at the orthopedic doctor today.

It was just a happy coincidence that my doctor issued shorts matched my shirt ;)

I was hoping for better news than I got. He still heard a lot of popping and cracking moving my knee around, and it was still tender. To be completely honest, I got in the car and cried.

I’ve already had to back out of two races this Spring (oh, um, I’m not running ZOOMA Annapolis – but you’ve probably already figured that out. I’ll still be there though!) and he told me that my triathlon may happen. He feels good that it’s a few months away, and gives me time to train. He did however say that he’ll probably be seeing me after.

I’ve been frustrated. I told ya’ll I almost didn’t schedule again at PT for this week (#dramaqueen #makingmountainsoutofmolehills) because of my frustration.

But then, I think about it like this. Okay, so I’m not running right now. Does that mean I’ll never run again? Who knows. I don’t have to be a runner though to be the best, healthy version of myself. And, maybe when I lose some more weight, these ‘ol knees won’t have to work so hard.

Perspective

There are people at Physical Therapy, and in that office today who have gone through, or are going through much worse things than I am right now.

I need to keep it in perspective.

Yes, I can’t run, and that sure sucks, but I can go swimming, I can go on the elliptical, I can take some lower intensity classes. I can still exercise.

I’ve been getting so caught up in what I can’t do, that I’m forgetting to appreciate what I can.

I needed this dose of reality today, that’s for certain. We never get to choose our circumstances, but we DO get to choose how we react to them. We get to choose our attitude. We get to choose our perspective.

There’s never sunshine without the rain, right?

Thinking-Out-Loud

Linking up with Amanda today, because I think we all need to Think Out Loud a bit about perspective, right? :)
